Morning Song

Ian Matthews released two albums in 1971. This is from one of them: Tigers Will Survive. Ian had left Freeport Convention in 1969 and drifted away from the British traditional direction where Fairport was headed, gravitating more toward the American singer/songwriters that were the sources for much of the group's material in their early days.

This is, for me, one of his prettiest songs.

Ian Matthews had an am radio hit with a song called "Shake It" up here in Canada. It turned me on to his music, and I quickly discovered that his music is rich. The best stuff never reaches the pop charts.

Dan,
Most of folk or folk rock no longer comes close to the charts. In the old days, Judy Collins or Gordon or Joni would break through, but it's been a long time.

Wiser heads prevail in Canadian if singers like Ian have had radio programs.
