When I hear Kate and Anna McGarrigle sing this song, I get the chills. It's that beautiful to me.
Heart Like a Wheel comes from their debut album released in 1994. Linda Ronstadt had a hit with this song written by Anna, but the Garrigles sing it with such fragility the words seem to fill with meaning.
I listened twice this morning before I posted it.

Beautyful, but whasn'n their Debut-Album. They are active since the 70's.
Sorry, I screwed up the date. It is indeed from their debut album in 1976 though. I have no idea where I got 1994.
this album made me a lifelong
mcgarrigle fan...this is a great song all by itself but the vocals
add so much more to it. greg mpls
Greg,
Nice to hear from you again!
I can't imagine someone hearing this and not being a lifelong fan!
Thanks so much for this. I've had these ladies in 45, LP, and EP formats collecting dust in my basement for years. You've reminded me to pull these fine Canadian artists from those shelves. Their music still sounds wonderful, and along the way I've rediscovered many other artists from "back in the year".
Dan,
I have also followed my favorite artists from LP to cassette to CD, and many of my favorites are Canadian folk singers.
The Garrigles do sound wonderful, and I hadn't played them in a while myself. It was good to hear them again.
really nice to hear this. i played the linda ronstadt album version (from 1974) afterwards and noticed the verse about death was missing... maybe it hadn't been written yet. anyway, maria muldaur's harmony is fantastic, and i love the little fiddle bit at the end. it would be interesting to know how this song evolved.
I went looking to see if I could find more about the song but didn't. Anna McGarrigle wrote it so I think their version is complete.
