The rhythm section drove every Motown record with that distinctive sound. The Motown "mix" always upped the voices, but it was that background beat that sold the records.

I was such a Supremes fan and loved that Motown sound. We used to pretend to be the Supremes with those great arm movements. Sigh! We never did have the costumes.
