Thanks for being a purist, Kat. Gogie Grant had a huge hit with this song, but Frankie Laine's is superior. I've always wished that Gene Pitney had done this one. It would have suited his voice perfectly.
I think Frankie's biggest hit was probably Rawhide.Whic makes me think of those westerns I use to watch on TV like: Wagon Train, Maverick, The Rebel, Gunsmoke, The Big Valley, Paladin, The Lone Ranger, Rawhide, Bonanza, Cheyanne, Sugarfoot, F-Troop, and I know I forgot a few.. A little trivia here. "What western or musical of that type on the big screen did Clint Eastwood actually sing in" ? ? give up? it was the muscial movie show..."Paint Your Wagon" also starring Lee Marvin

Dan,
You're welcome, Dan, but it was an easy choice.
I agree about Gene Pitney.
I wish to enter my vote for Patsy Cline on her album "Faded Love".

Morphy,
I actually knew the answer to that without looking!
You have a few of my favorites on your list. That would be Maverick, Paladin and F Troop!
I am amazed at how I grew up with so many westerns. As a kid I watched Rin Tin Tin, The Lone Ranger, Annie Oakley, Buffalo Bill and so many more.
Minicapt,
I didn't know she sang that song, but I really don't know many Patsy songs.
