I was movin’ to that one! BTW, I heard through the grapevine that Tom has just completed a new album. I have a video of him doing “The Remember Song” that I must post someday—if I can remember what I did with it. [:-)
I was just listening to his TOM RUSH cd a couple of days ago. I remember seeing him at McCormick Place, Chicago with a huge folk show the same night the Beatles were playing over at Soldier Field. What a thrill for an 18 year old folkie! Bukka White's Panama Limited's been a favorite ever since.
here's some news on the new release from Tom's site:
October 4, 2008
Hi. Welcome, and come on in!
Well, I’ve gone and done it – finished up a new album. I’m hoping to have copies for you later this fall or early winter, though the official release on Appleseed won’t happen until early next year.
I recorded it in Nashville, with my old buddy Jim Rooney producing (co-author of Baby Let Me Follow You Down), and I must say that, as hard to please as I am, I really do like the results. It’s my first studio project in a long time (when I told Emmylou how long it had been, her retort was, “You should be ashamed of yourself!”), and it was a lot of fun to get back into that arena.
The Nashville players are a hardworking bunch. They show up at 10AM, work until 1, break for lunch, work 2 ‘til 5 and go home. It’s a lot like having a job (I would imagine). But … the way they play is truly joyful, and joy to hear.
Emmylou, Nanci Griffith, Bonnie Bramlett all came by and did some harmonies, and it was great to see them all again. (I hadn’t seen Bonnie since we were on the Festival Express train in ’70!)
Again, I’m not sure when the artwork will be done, what the title will be or the sequence of songs – though that last may be a bit irrelevant in this day of iPods and downloads. But, if you sign up for the mailing list, you’ll be the first to know. I think you’ll like this one!
John, Thanks so much for the new album information. I'm going to head on over to his web site and add my name to the mailing list. By the sounds of it, I can hardly wait.
It's hard to believe the cd you took this from was released 31 years after Rush's 'Blues, Rags & Hollers' LP ...and that I got that one (which I still have and it's still listenable) the same year as the Even Dozen Jug Band LP, which also has Rag Mama on it...popular song that year for folkies. No wonder I still like to hear it. Thanks.
J, You are most welcome. Like you, I have LP's, and mine trace my changing musical tastes as I grew older. The records start with a yellow Frosty the Snowman!
Kat, Have you got Tom's Trolling for Owls? He does a great job on Spider John's version of Duncan and Brady. It's amazing how many people I listen to that I first heard of through Tom's covers. And he's still at it. It wasn't too long ago he led me to The Austin Lounge Lizards.
As with you, Tom Rush sent me all over listening to other singers. PP&M did the same. They are two of the reasons I love folk music. That first Tom Rush filled me with awe.

Thanks, Nick, for the Tom information. I'll keep checking Nick's Bytes just in case you find it!

Ahh Yes,
the Lizards!
David,
I haven't that song.

John,
They've appeared only once here. It might just be time....
