Irving Gordon, who wrote this song, has been overlooked in the history of great songwriting for as well as "Allentown Jail",he wrote two more big hits - "Delaware" for Perry Como (in 1959) and he won a Grammy for a song that is so famous it amazes me that he so little known. The song was "Unforgettable" which he wrote for Nat King Cole in 1951 and for which he won a Grammy in 1992 for the re-recording by Natlaie(orig:Nat Kelly) Cole..He said about "Unforgettable":
"I actually wrote Unforgettable about my mother, but I had to cover that up, so I masked it pretty well,"
sbalke, I appreciate you for many reasons not the least of which is the wonderful background you give us all about these songs. I knew nothing of Iriving Gordon let alone he'd written such an amazing song.
